Sea Site Manager
Permanent, Full-Time Position

Salary Range $80,000 to $95,000 Annually

Job Description

Grieg Seafood BC Ltd., a dynamic and growing company in the Aquaculture industry, is seeking to hire a permanent full-time Sea Site Manager. Reporting to the Production Manager, the Site Manager is responsible for all farm operations including growth performance of the stocks, feeding, husbandry, inventory purchases, maintaining contractor relationships and management and security of stock. Other responsibilities include organizing and coordinating work crews and assessing staffing needs. The Sea Site Manager works a shift of 8 days on and 6 days off on one of our sea sites, leading a team that includes an Assistant Manager and several Aquaculture Technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Management

  • All day-to-day management of the sea site and fish;
  • Ordering feed, fuel, forecasting and planning;
  • Budgeting, financial and biological analysis;
  • Managing biosecurity procedures and product use;
  • Maintaining and inspecting farm equipment and systems;
  • Fish escape, predator and wildlife interaction response and prevention;
  • Feed and fuel delivery and storage;
  • Managing site preparation and overseeing fish stocking, transfers, grading, treatments and harvests;
  • Plankton and oxygen monitoring and response planning;
  • Vessel operation and equipment towing;
  • Fish health and weight sampling/mortality classification;
  • Centralized feeding equipment maintenance and programming;
  • VHF Radio operation and procedure;
  • Emergency response - medical evacuation procedures;
  • Data recording and entry into Fish Talk.

Talent Management

  • Ensure adherence to company Human Resources practices and procedures and fostering of positive ongoing relationships with all employees;
  • Ensure that all necessary training and education of employees is kept current, updated and improved;
  • Responsible for the preparation and implementation of staff performance reviews, staff development, objective-setting and succession planning;
  • Train, develop, mentor and coach junior team members;
  • Responsible for maintaining efficient and productive staffing levels;
  • Provide input into staffing schedules and manpower management;
  • Responsible for the safety of all site staff.

Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. or related degree in Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources or Fisheries Resources Management preferred;
  • Must have minimum four years’ recent related experience;
  • Strong leadership skills;
  • Excellent Project Management Skills;
  • Excellent planning, organizational and forecasting skills;
  • Strong financial management skills;
  • Physically fit;
  • Ability to problem solve;
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong report-writing skills;
  • Computer proficiency;
  • Proficient in use of Fish Talk or similar fish health management software;
  • In depth knowledge of all company policies, procedures and government regulations;
  • Able to train Aquaculture Technicians to company Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Ability to understand and direct plans in support of FCR and Growth Performance;
  • Proficient math skills;
  • Favorable driver's license.

Deckhand

Permanent Full time, Campbell River, BC

Salary Range: 25.50 To 29.50 (CAD) Hourly

Grieg Seafood BC Ltd., a dynamic company in the Aquaculture industry, is seeking to hire a dedicated Deckhand to join and support our Saltwater Team on the coasts of Vancouver Island. Reporting to the Skipper 2, the Deckhand will assist the Skipper 2 and Skipper in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of barge operations.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist with removal of all unused nets and ensure all net tag numbers are available for inventory
  • Assist with installation of all clean nets on site
  • Assist with mort allocation
  • Follow all biosecurity procedures pre and post bin transport
  • Hands-on mechanical maintenance and proper upkeep of barge to ensure vessel is maintained to Transport Canada and Grieg operating standards
  • Familiarity with maintenance and startup logs for main engines and crane motor
  • Familiarity with Barge Logbook, safety check list and all other company documents
  • Assist with movement of consumable items, feed and fuel between sites
  • Assist with moving of compressors on and off sites
  • Assist Skipper 2 and outside contractors with site anchoring as/when needed
  • Participate in education programs as required by regulation and made available from time to time or any other courses deemed necessary to maintain safe operation of barge and equipment
  • Understand and adhere to government regulations, Standard Operating Practices, WorkSafe BC regulations and company biosecurity rules and practices
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Be familiar with the maintenance and upkeep of the barge
  • Proficient with forklift, power tools and heavy equipment
  • Must possess strength and mobility to perform physical work outdoors in all weather conditions, use basic hand and power tools and equipment, lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment
  • Strong organization and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Mechanical training or equivalent
  • Mechanical work experience
  • Barge experience or equivalent preferred

Position Details:

  • Based on the barge with an 8-days-on / 6-days-off shift schedule
  • Occasional overtime as required
  • Outdoor, hands-on physical work in a marine environment
