On Thursday, 26 August, members of Grieg Seafood Newfoundland, the NAIA, along with other members of the community spent an afternoon cleaning up waste along Marystown's shoreline.
Four teams dispersed in various locations up and down the shores of the area. Event co-coordinator Miranda Squires reported that all told, over 40 garbage bags of waste along with 25 large single pieces of refuse such as car parts, a TV and even a child's car seat were removed from the beaches.
While this is no doubt a victory, it also shines a light on the larger issue of littering both on land and on the sea. Respecting the environment is everyone's responsibility but also our passion. We hope others take on the same zeal for maintaining a clean and healthy environment for all.
