Statement Regarding Fishways

In September 2018, Grieg Seafood Newfoundland was mandated by the Provincial Department of Environment as a condition of release from its Environmental Impact Statement to develop an Environmental Effects Monitoring Plan to monitor wild salmon populations. As a result of this condition, Grieg Seafood Newfoundland, under the direction of DFO, constructed and began operating a salmon fishway (counting fence) on behalf of DFO, on Come-By Chance River in 2021 and a fishway on Bay de L’Eau river in 2023.

Grieg Seafood Newfoundland advises the public that these fishway’s are mandated and all operations including the location of the fishway are as per direction from DFO. Any questions or concerns regarding the fishway should be directed to DFO.
