Grieg Seafood Shetland Proudly Supports The Swan Trust

Every year Grieg Seafood Shetland supports local community groups, clubs, and charities with thousands of pounds worth of funding. Earlier this year we were contacted by the Swan Trust, a charity which maintains and operates a traditional fishing sail boat originally launched in Shetland in 1900.

They provide the opportunity for anyone to sail on the boat, deliver youth sail training and do crucial work in preserving the traditional maritime skills, both on deck and in the workshop, which helped build our local community.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the Swan Trust was in a very difficult position. With the loss of crucial commercial revenue from its sailings, it found itself struggling to afford essential repairs and maintenance, including replacing the jib sail and main sail after 25 years of use. Grieg Seafood Shetland was very pleased to be able to offer £500 towards the purchase of a new jib sail, made using traditional techniques.

“We are delighted to receive our new Jib sail – replacing the current sail which is nearly 25 years old! We are very grateful to all our funders. The jib is now tucked away safely in the sail loft until we can commence sailing again next year”

The Swan Trust

They were able to secure other sources of funding and have managed to financially support their operations during these difficult times. Grieg Seafood Shetland is very proud of the support it is able to offer within our local community. We are so happy to have a role in the future success of the Swan Trust and hope they will continue with the excellent work they do for Shetland’s cultural heritage.
